Tissue Changing Software (TCM)
Tissue Changing Monitoring (TCM) is unique software designed for the Sonablate® 500 that monitors real-time tissue changes during HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) therapy for the treatment of malignant and benign prostate disease. TCM provides feedback on the treatment in real time so that the surgeon knows exactly what is happening to the prostate tissue during HIFU. TCM reduces side effects for patients by tailoring amounts of heat used for each individual patient. A radio frequency (RF) signal is sent to a treatment site prior to delivery of HIFU and then another signal is sent after delivery of HIFU in the same treatment site and it then calculates the change that took place in the tissue and displays it on-screen for the surgeon to know that the cancer has been killed. TCM calculates tissue changes based on a comparison of radio frequency (RF) ultrasound pulse-echo signals at each treatment site. When the surgeon knows that the tissue has been killed he can stop treating that area of the prostate and prevent unwanted side-effects caused by over-treatment.
