Prostate HIFU treatment for early stage prostate cancer is now available as an NHS treatment at North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke, England, one of several UK reference centres for teaching prostate HIFU with the Sonablate ® 500 HIFU device from UKHIFU Ltd. The reference centre will participate in an accreditation process for teaching UK and European surgeons the technique of prostate HIFU with the Sonablate® 500, Mr Nicholas Stevens, UKHIFU Ltd. Managing Director, said “with prostate HIFU becoming widely available as an NHS primary prostate cancer treatment, we are delighted that Mr Richard Hindley, consultant Urological surgeon at North Hampshire hospital, has agreed to train other surgeons”.   The reference centre has also helped to evaluate exciting technical developments including a new ultrasound probe with a 4.5cm focal length which allows easy treatment of prostates up to 45cc and a high definition imaging probe and are now commercially available.
